Patients and Visitors
Your hospital room has been planned for efficient medical and nursing care in a safe, comfortable environment. Rooms are assigned based on your physician’s orders, the kind of medical care you need and room availability.
All inpatient rooms are equipped with adjustable beds, bathroom emergency bells, call buttons, direct dial telephones and televisions. Please discuss with your care team whether you should get out of bed without assistance. If you need to speak to a nurse, press the call button on the cord attached to your bed or bed rail.
All inpatient rooms are equipped with telephones. Your family and friends may call you by dialing 805.988.2500 at SJRMC in Oxnard or 805.389.5800 at SJPVH in Camarillo and asking the hospital operator to ring your room.
Color televisions are available in each room. Television service is free of charge in all patient rooms.
Flowers and Balloons
Flowers are delivered to patient rooms as soon as they arrive. Flowers are not allowed in the Intensive Care units. Please note that St. John’s Hospitals are a latex-sensitive environment, so latex rubber balloons are not permitted; however, Mylar balloons are welcome.
St. John’s makes every effort to provide nutritious meals that are prepared according to your physician’s orders, including special diets.
You will be provided a daily menu to select your meals for the next day. The schedule is:
Breakfast: 7 to 9 a.m.
Lunch: 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Dinner: 5 to 6:30 p.m.
If you have special food needs, a dietitian can work with you to accommodate them. Ask your physician or nurse to arrange this service.
Calling Your Nurse
When calling your nurse, please press the call button. The nurses’ station is alerted that you need assistance and will assess your needs and send someone to assist you. If it is an emergency, please make sure the nurse is aware of the situation.
Leaving the Unit
If you want to leave the unit, please check first at the nurses’ station to make sure your physician has given approval and to let the staff know where you can be reached. It is important to stay in your room until your physician has made rounds and treatments have been completed.
To support you and family members during your stay at St. John’s, chaplains are available to provide spiritual care that leads to health in body, mind and spirit. Chaplains assist patients and families to draw on their own spiritual traditions and strengths as they cope with illness, trauma and healing. Chaplains also help patients and families as they make medical treatment decisions, serving as a link to the Ethics Committee, and as a resource for thinking through choices. During your hospitalization, a chaplain may visit, and will be happy to contact a patient’s own pastor or rabbi upon request. Ask your nurse to contact a chaplain for you or call the hospital operator by dialing “0” from your hospital phone.

The staff at St. John’s Regional Medical Center and St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital is dedicated to providing you with quality healthcare. If you experience exceptional service or have a problem or concern, we want to know about it as soon as possible. If you have a compliment or a complaint, please tell your physician, nurse or other healthcare professional. They will assist you in any way possible. If you feel that your issue was not resolved, we suggest you contact the nursing supervisor on duty or Administration. Just dial the hospital operator by pressing “0” and they will connect you.
