Tasty Cooking Ideas and Carbohydrate Counting Presentation
Oxnard, Calif. (April 9, 2010) – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimate that there are nearly 42,000 adults in Ventura County with diagnosed diabetes—roughly 7.1 percent of the adult population in our local communities. Families affected by diabetes often struggle with daily management of the disease. Simple daily tasks, such as preparing healthy tasty meals for those with diabetes, may become overwhelming and difficult. But healthy eating and diabetes self-management skills, such as counting carbohydrates, can save lives.
To help those affected by diabetes and their families and caregivers, St. John’s Regional Medical Center and St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital are offering a free presentation and cooking demonstration for families affected by diabetes on
Saturday, April 17, 2010 at St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard in the Conference Center on the Garden Level. An English-language presentation will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., and a Spanish-language presentation will take place from noon to 3:45 p.m.
The event will feature a carbohydrate-counting presentation and a fun-cooking demonstration, at which attendees will learn how to prepare delicious and tasty meals for people with diabetes. Attendees will also receive free information and tips for diabetes management. Those interested in participating should call (805) 988-2865 for more information or to register. Reservations are requested by Wednesday, April 14, 2010. Space is limited, and reservations will be made on a first-come, first-served basis.
