Five New Members Join St. John's Community Board
NEW COMMUNITY BOARD MEMBERS ANNOUNCED FOR
ST. JOHN’S REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER AND
ST. JOHN’S PLEASANT VALLEY HOSPITAL
Oxnard, Calif. – St. John’s Hospitals are pleased to announce that our Community Board of Directors has added five new members: Dr. Lynn Jeffers, Laura McAvoy, Sylvia Schnopp, Donald Skinner, and Jeri Williams. They joined St. John’s as board members on July 1. Additionally, Community Board member Martin Shum took over as board president effective July 1.
“We are thankful to have such influential and proactive citizens join the hospitals’ Community Board and to have them volunteering their valuable time for the betterment of our communities,” said board president Martin Shum.
Lynn Jeffers, M.D. has been practicing plastic surgery privately in Oxnard for almost ten years. Previously, she taught plastic surgery residents at the University of Southern California as an attending surgeon at the City of Hope National Medical Center. She is also on the Board of Directors for the American Society for Plastic Surgeons and is the chair of the California Medical Association Young Physicians Section.
Laura McAvoy is a partner in the Westlake office of Musick, Peeler, & Garrett LLP and serves as a general counsel to a publically traded New York Stock Exchange oil and gas company. She was named one of the “Top 50 Women in Business” by the Pacific Coast Business Times for 2008 and Ventura County Volunteer of the Year in 2000.
Sylvia Schnopp is currently serving as Mayor for the City of Port Hueneme, representing the city on the Board of Directors, the executive committee of the Economic Development Collaborative of Ventura County (EDC-VC), and as a commissioner on the Ventura County Library Services Commission. She owns Schnopp Consulting Group, which provides general and segmented business consulting.
Donald Skinner has been the Chairman / CEO of Skinner Development, which specializes in Real Estate investment and development. Among other successful business ventures, he founded Eltron International, Inc. and led it from zero sales to over $130 million in eight years. He also founded the Skinner Electronics Literacy Project at California State University Northridge, which places computer and software technology into first and second grade classrooms.
Jeri Williams serves as the Oxnard Chief of Police. She came to Oxnard with 22 years of experience at the City of Phoenix Police Department where, in her role as the Assistant Chief of the Southern Division, she was responsible for 1,000 sworn and civilian personnel and over half of the city’s 500 plus square miles.
“We are thrilled to welcome these five recognized leaders to St. John’s Community Board,” said Laurie Eberst, president and CEO for St. John’s Regional Medical Center and Catholic Healthcare West senior vice president of Operations for the Ventura County service area. “In collaboration with our continuing board members, they will help further St. John’s mission and ensure that affordable healthcare services are available to the communities we serve.”
