Quality and Awards


St. John's Hospitals have been honored with several awards and recognitions over the years. Below is just a sampling of our recent achievements.

St. John's Heart and Vascular Institute was recently recognized by HealthGrades with the following awards:

  • Best in the Region for Cardiology Services in 2012 
  • Only 5-Star Rated Hospital for Cardiology Services in the Region 
  • Best in the Region for Overall Cardiac Services 
  • Only 5-Star Rated Hospital for Heart Failure in the Region 
  • Only 5-Star Rated Hospital for Heart Attack in the Region 
  • Only 5-Star Rated Hospital for PCI/Coronary Interventional Procedures in the Region 
  • Only Hospital in the Region to receive the HealthGrades Coronary Intervention Excellence Award in 2012*

* Region is Oxnard-Thousand Oaks-Ventura, CA as defined by the federal government's Office of Management and Budget.

In May 2011, St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital (SJPVH) was the only hospital in the United States to receive the Practice Greenhealth 2011 “DEHP-Free Award” and was recognized as being the one healthcare facility that has made the most progress toward replacing medical devices and other products containing polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and DEHP (a softener for PVC) with safer alternatives.

In May 2011, SJPVH received the Practice Greenhealth 2011 “Partner for Change with Distinction Award,” which recognizes healthcare facilities that have achieved improvements in their mercury elimination, waste reduction, and pollution prevention programs.

In July 2009, St. John’s Regional Medical Center (SJRMC) and St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital received a Circle of Life Award® Citation of Honor from the American Hospital Association (AHA).

In 2008, SJRMC with Fleishman-Hillard Inc. won a Silver Anvil Award, sponsored by the Public Relations Society of America. This national award recognizes outstanding achievement in strategic public relations planning and implementation.

In 2005, 2006 and 2007, SJRMC was a recipient of the HealthGrades Cardiac Care Excellence Award™.

In 2007, SJRMC received the HealthGrades Cardiac Surgery Excellence Award™ – given only to the top five percent of hospitals in the nation.

In 2006, SJRMC earned a rating of "Better" in the first mandatory "California Report on Coronary Artery Bypass Graft" (CABG) Surgery 2003 Hospital Data by the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD). St. John’s was one of only four hospitals in California, and the only hospital in Ventura County, to earn this designation.
